BERLIN – The German automobile association VDA has downgraded its forecast for the passenger car market in the United States and Europe, citing inflation, interest rates and ongoing problems in the supply chain.

It revised its forecast for US car deliveries to predict a 7% decline this year from a previous forecast of a 1% decline.

In Europe, it expects shipments to fall 4% from a previous unchanged forecast.

in the Chinawhere the recovery from pandemic-related lockdowns was faster than expected, it forecast growth of 9% versus a previous forecast of 3%.

Globally, the association continues to expect no change from last year’s deliveries, which totaled 71.4 million vehicles – still 9.2 million below the industry’s production in 2019 before the pandemic.

2023 Ram Rebel 2500 HD adds the diesel engine you can’t have in the Power Wagon

did you want a Ram Power Wagonbut couldn’t pull the trigger because Ram won’t sell it to you with the Cummins diesel Engine? Well today Ram has an answer for you and it is the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel. Officially at least. Go ahead and call it the Ram Rebel 2500 HD if you prefer. And if you couldn’t say it now, it is heavy truck Week – Chevy released a refreshed Silverado HD earlier this week, and Ford unveiled its next-generation Super Dutj shortly thereafter.

Similar to the light load Ram 1500 rebels, the HD version is a pickup truck with off-road chops and off-road looks straight from the factory. You’ll quickly notice that it looks a lot like a Power Wagon – Ram says many of the exterior design cues are actually shared with the Power Wagon. However, the Rebel is differentiated by a Mopar “sports performance hood” and Rebel badging throughout. It comes standard with 20-inch wheels and 33-inch off-road tires, but Ram says 18-inch wheels will be available later in the 2023 model year. It features unique off-road suspension (rear air suspension optional), four-wheel drive, a Warn Zeon-12 winch rated at 12,000 pounds, rear locking differential, rear electronic locker, and skid plates to protect the fuel tank and transfer case. Don’t expect it to outperform a Power Wagon off-road, however, as it doesn’t offer superior extras like the front-locking differential and electronically separating anti-roll bar.

The powertrain history might be enough to sway you to the Rebel side, as this Heavy Duty Ram is also available with a diesel engine, unlike the Power Wagon. Ram still makes its 6.4-liter V8 the standard engine in the Rebel (as in the Power Wagon), and it makes a respectable 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. This setup will not bring you the maximum tow away capability, but the diesel will max out at 16,870 pounds — a Power Wagon has a maximum towing capacity of 10,590 pounds. The 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged diesel inline-six produces 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque in the Rebel. The diesel comes with a six-speed automatic, while the petrol comes with an eight-speed automatic. Maximum payload is 3,140 pounds, which is another big plus for the diesel-powered Rebel over the Power Wagon, which weighs just 1,630 pounds.

Inside, the Rebel is available with cloth, Bristol leather or Natura Plus leather seats. Optional add-ons include a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and other driver assistance features. It’s only available in one configuration: Crew Cab with a 6ft 4in bed

Ram says the 2023 Ram Rebel will start at $68,940, including the target fee. Expect them to roll in dealer in the fourth quarter of 2022 and AutoMK will be driving it in a couple of weeks. Look for our review of October 24th.

Cadillac recalls 186 Lyriq EVs over touchscreen shutdown issues

Cadillac has just launched its first electric vehicle, the Lyriq, and has already banned sales following a problem with it Infotainment touchscreen. People often joke that early tech adopters are just an unpaid beta Testers for new productsand unfortunately, some EV buyers seem to find that the adage sometimes applies to them, too new vehicles.

Luckily for Cadillac and its buyers, the Lyriq really is brand new, so here it is are not many roaming the streets. The recall only includes 186 units, but we don’t have quarterly sales figures to compare. Employees noticed a blank touchscreen in a Lyriq they were sitting in GM‘s factory in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The automaker says the system occasionally initiates software updates while the vehicle is parked, and if someone interrupts the process by opening a door, the screen may turn off.

General Motors launched an investigation on August 19 and expanded it with field data that revealed 16 related incidents in the wild. The last incident was reported on September 14, and the automaker made the decision to recall those affected Lyriq models one day later. GM set out to identify Lyriqs with the problem and will keep vehicles at the factory until there is a fix.

Cadillac’s current solution to the problem? Turn the vehicle off and on again (have you tried restarting?). Serious. A more permanent solution will come in the form of an over-the-air software update that will take place after November 7, when the automaker says it will begin notifying customers.

Brabus 600 Masterpiece takes the Mercedes S-Class to new heights

The latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class didn’t need any help in the luxury, performance and exclusivity departments, but this has never stopped Brabus. The legendary tuning shop announced the new Brabus 600 Masterpiece, an opulent, sporty version of Mercedes’ executive sedan.

Brabus massaged The S-580 4Matic’s 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 boosts power from 496 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque to 600 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. At full throttle, the speedometer reaches 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, but Brabus had to limit the car’s top speed to 250 km/h due to its weight.

brabus upgraded the turbochargers To achieve this performance, new engine management software has been added with custom maps for fuel, boost and more. An available stainless steel exhaust has active valves to change the sound, and Brabus says the driver can select a suitable noise level with a knob on the steering wheel.

Brabus sharpened the car’s appearance with an aerodynamic carbon body, and all exterior trim is finished in dark chrome. The shop offers several “generous” wheel designs that reach 22 inches in diameter. Press images show the available Brabus Monoblock M Platinum Edition 22-inch wheels, and honestly there’s no reason to choose any other wheel.

Almost every part of the interior of the S-580 received that Brabus treatmentincluding unique upholstery stitching and Colours. The car is available in an “endless variety of leathers and microfibers in any color you want,” so we’ll likely see some wild specs on social media soon. Buyers can further customize the interior with wood and carbon accents in any desired color.

The 2022 S 580 4Matic starts at $111,100, but the masterpiece is quite a distance from this “base price”.. Brabus quotes a price of 342,617 euros (as of today: 330,068 US dollars) for the demo car shown in its press release, but rest assured that many of the cars will go for much more than that.
